When Jenna joined the elite McVale Institute, she never dreamt she and her fellow students would be sent back in time to study in Ancient Rome. But not even time travel could prepare her for the series of events that occur after she touches a statue of Mars. Jenna’s aim is to keep a low profile but when she runs into Senator Aurelius, Rome’s leading senator, within her first few minutes of arrival, and then picks a fight with Marshall of the Peace Marcus Vilnus later that day, she realises her trip is going to be anything but smooth. Despite being in a male dominated society, Jenna can’t bring herself to lose her twenty-first century attitude; meek and subservient aren’t words in her vocabulary. Jenna isn’t the only one hiding her true identity. Marcus, Aurelius and the rest of their family are Roman Gods living as mortals. Marcus realises very early on that Jenna is no ordinary mortal. She possesses a power no mortal should have; she has the ability to kill a God. Marcus and Aurelius know Jenna is from another world; can they really turn down the opportunity to learn about time travel? Marcus finds that keeping the streets trouble free is a lot easier than trying to control an outspoken time traveller. With lots of sword fighting, horse racing, heated arguments, sibling rivalry and an assassination plot to foil, life is anything but dull for Jenna and Marcus. Then there’s the small matter of her troublesome birthmark.
