Claire St. Claire is a rich socialite and accomplished head curator at the Minneapolis Institute of art who finds love in a young, attractive attorney Xavier. However, her childhood was that of nightmares, many of which haunt her today. She grew up with a distant father and a mother who was slowly going insane. On a warm summer evening, a few months prior to her eighteenth birthday, Claire witnessed her mother attack and stab her father multiple times. Claire secretly hoped he wouldn’t survive, but to everyone’s surprise, he did. He was too arrogant and too stubborn to die. Once recovered, Claire’s father filed for her mother’s committal, and the balance of the outcome weighed upon Claire’s shoulders.
As a child, Clare craved happiness. Even as an adult, she found very little joy in her life. The older she became, the more she withdrew from society, always living alone and having next to no friends save for her coworker, Sid.
Over time, Claire begins to witness bizarre events. The first was the sudden and frightening appearance of a deformed, ghastly creature. In the beginning, she tells herself she’s hallucinating, but as the creature presents itself to her more frequently, she fears she is going crazy, terrified she is following in her mother’s footsteps. She begins to unravel and mistrusts her own mind as she experiences unexplainable horrors. Everything she has been taught, everything she knew to be true about the real world, begins to fade away: her beliefs about good and evil, the supernatural, angels, demons, and a rare breed of half-angels, half-humans known as Nephilim, were much more than she ever knew.
Nothing makes sense to her anymore. She has no one to turn to for answers. That is, until Michael shows up.
