When Elizabeth meets Joe at the train station in 1938, she assumes he’s only interested in one thing, but she couldn’t be further from the truth. He is working for an American charity that helps children affected by war and wants to recruit the best people for his team of humanitarian workers. He whisks her away to Spain, where a civil war is raging, and they set up a relief hospital together. But soon the forces of fascism sweep them into a greater conflict – World War II – and they must fight hard to save the people they care about.
