Ganesha is first among gods in Hindu Dharma. He is invoked and prayed to before any other deity. This third and concluding part of the Ganesha Purana builds upon the first two parts to conclude with the Ganesha Gita. The second volume spoke of Ganesha’s avatar as Vinayaka in the first Yuga (age).

This third volume covers two more Avatars across the next Yugas (ages) – Mayureshvara and Gajanana. He takes form to get rid of evil from this world and to restore balance. The Mayureshvara avatar traces His birth as a wonderous baby and how he goes on to destroy simple Asuras in his childhood. As He grows, he subdues the various devas (five forces of rain, wind, fire etc.) then the king of devas (Indra) and also speaks about his equality with Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. He then moves on to subdue the Lord of Death – Yama – himself. After this, He moves on to defeat a powerful demon Kamala thereby establishing himself as the rightful overpowering force for the ulimater personification of evil – Sindhu.

These books continue to further open our eyes and expand our minds to see a glimpse of the Roopa (form) of Ganesha. It lets us get an idea of His Grandeur, Majesty, Strength, Power and Tenderness towards his Bhaktas (devotees). And despite the vastness of all those Qualities that we experience as we read, one cannot help feel that its but a drop in the Infinity that is the true nature of Ganesha!
