While waiting for a train with their families, Roland, Elowen, and Killian hear a faint voice coming through a subway wall.
The voice repeatedly says three numbers followed by the words:
“Do not open the blue door.”
Adults assume it is a broken announcement speaker. The children discover that the message only plays when certain driverless trains enter the station.

Roland BennettRoland is a patient, logical boy who loves maps, puzzles, detective stories, and handwritten notes. He notices patterns that other people overlook.
His weakness is that he sometimes spends too much time thinking when he needs to act.
Roland usually serves as the group’s planner. He keeps track of timelines, locations, suspects, and unanswered questions.
Elowen RiveraElowen is a confident, observant girl with an excellent memory for faces, voices, clothing, and small details. She is the best interviewer of the three and can often tell when someone is avoiding a question.
Her weakness is that her curiosity sometimes pushes her ahead before Roland and Killian are ready.
Elowen often notices the human clues—the nervous glance, the unusual phrase, the muddy shoe, or the detail in someone’s story that does not fit.
Killian ParkKillian is an inventive boy who understands computers, robots, electronic locks, drones, and artificial intelligence. He builds simple gadgets from discarded parts.
His weakness is that he sometimes trusts technology too much and overlooks ordinary explanations.
Killian helps the group understand the advanced systems surrounding them, but he gradually learns that even the smartest machine can be fooled.
