A Long Journey to Christmas: Bonus Story

Donalyn leaves home to marry a widower with two small children out West. Upon her arrival, she discovers her intended is gone but his brother steps in to marry her. She immediately jumps into the role of being a mother to five-year-old Dory and baby Patsy.
A few months later just as the winter winds begin to call, her husband deserts her and that the home they are living in has been foreclosed on. Along with her mother-in-law and children, they set out in a covered wagon to travel to relatives. A journey that should take less than 10 days. With little money and no men to help, Myrtle and Donalyn must work together to survive. The journey starts out smoothly but life has a way of changing things and they find themselves stranded along the way. Five weeks later they finally reach a small town just in time for Christmas where long-held secrets are revealed.
