I’ve read so many cheating wife stories that I have an opinion of the genre overall. Many of the stories settle on being tropes,. Repeats of similar stories but under altered circumstances. They have to be tropish somewhat because of the common elements of having a husband, a wife, a lothario, and sex.
And really there are only three basic outcomes for the husband: 1. BTB (Burn the Bitch/Bastard/Both) wherein the husband punishes the cheater(s), 2. RAAC (Reconcile At Any Cost) Where the husband forgives the wife, or at least takes her back, and 3. Move-on, where the husband moves forward with his life absent his wife. (There is also a seldom used fourth option: suicide).
My stories try to be different and go beyond the tropes, to be unique enough to rise above the tropes and engage the reader.
They focus more on the emotional and psychological causes and trauma of the cheating. Stories that are more insightful more inciteful (as in inciting emotions and thoughts in the reader) than typical cheating wife stories.
