Dataman is a cyberpunk retelling of the Greek myth of Persephone and Hades. King Louis XIV (Hades) kidnaps Marlena von Glitchenstein (Persephone) and takes her to his home in the Underworld (the virtual city of Versailles.) Dr. Sigmund von Glitchenstein (a male Demeter) is Marlena’s father, the world’s preeminent cyber-psychoanalyst. Randall Faircloth (a Hermes figure) is deployed by Dr. von Glitchenstein to recover Marlena from New Versailles. The struggle ensues when Louis vows to make Marlena his Queen and destroy the Seven Sisters (seven great cybercities) in seven days, reducing it to raw code for a new cybernetic Versailles.
