Kate is at a crossroads. A social worker with a compassionate heart, she finds herself in conflict with her employer, the Westbrook Community Justice Service, after offering to accommodate a client in her own home. Against department regulations, she’s reprimanded by management and harangued for her world view and belief in God by the charismatic department psychologist, Dr Paul Leeuwin.Life becomes more complicated when she questions her church leadership about their decision to fund an extension rather than reach out to struggling families in a neighbouring suburb. Her concerns dismissed as unfounded, she shares her heart for the less fortunate with friends, suggesting the community would be better served if that money was spent on a para-church organisation and not on ‘feathering their own nest.’ Her remarks spark a heated debate among people she thought she knew well and it’s not long before she finds herself at odds with many of them over their reserved, somewhat guarded, attitude towards her criticism of church policy. In conflict at work and falling out with fellow believers over her strong views, she takes ‘time out’ using her accrued leave to ponder her future, her career at an all time low. Can she continue in her current position or is it time to move on? Is she wrong about urging her church to redirect their funding towards a more gospel-oriented project? Is God trying to tell her something and she’s missed it?It’s while volunteering at a local charity during her break away from work that she’s approached by the same friends who’d been offended by her comments in the past, now wanting to take a closer look at the idea of setting up a ‘not-for-profit’ outreach centre. Things develop in a way she could never have envisaged, and when Dr Paul Leeuwin arrives at her door in a distraught state, a new chapter opens in both their lives, with lasting ramifications for the future. This is a Christian novel with prayer and Scripture written into the story. There’s romance and humour, love and compassion, faith and prayer throughout, but the ’light’ is battling with the ‘darkness’ and the novel deals with some serious issues in a realistic and truthful manner.#church fellowship #not-for-profit#inspirational #sexual abuse#pregnancy #domestic violence#Messiah/Israel #redemption
