London, 1935. On a stormy October night, artist Felicia Adams disturbs an unusual burglar, intent on stealing from her kitchen pantry. He seems vaguely familiar to her, but before the police can investigate the quiet suburb of Green Hill is shaken by another, more vicious crime. Felicia’s neighbour and eminent Harley Street physician Dr Langley lies murdered, poisoned whilst hosting a dinner party for his closest friends and family. This is a case for Scotland Yard, and so it falls to Detective Inspector John Graydon to unravel the mystery. But in discovering what secrets may lie beneath the respectability of suburbia, the Inspector starts to wonder what his own past may hold. Is it always better to know, or are some stones best left unturned?
