I never thought I’d get this close to my dream of playing hockey professionally. My family didn’t have money, hockey wasn’t popular where I grew up, and I was never drafted. I fought for every rung on the hockey ladder, and finally I’m almost there. A fluke injury put me in an NHL game, and I earned the win.
But I almost lost my shot because of a drunken post game rant about the woman hockey player who shared the net with me. I couldn’t tell anyone that I’d just discovered her father was my sperm donor, the guy who knocked up my mom and left, not without hurting other people.
The team still needed me to play, so they decided to rehab the situation by having me prove my support for women’s hockey by dating one of my half sister’s teammates.
