The Second Human Extinction Event: Will the Sun Rise or Set on Humanity?

The COVID-24 virus has killed most of the people on Earth. Only those who lived remotely have survived. Max Everitt, a retired engineer, was one of the survivors. At 84 years of age, he lives in his remote cabin, waiting to die. One day, while hiking through the forest, he encounters an elderly man in distress. As he helps him recover, the man states that he is an alien sent to Earth to save humanity from extinction and needs Max’s help. Max suppresses his laughter, figures the man is suffering from sunstroke, and informs him gently that he is too old to save humanity. The alien solves that problem by putting Max’s 84-year-old mind into an 18-year-old body and tells him he is now the Marshal of the valley. Max’s job is to protect the surviving humans who have migrated into the valley. But the alien hasn’t told Max the whole truth about his new body. The truth is that Max is the only hope that humanity will survive this Second Human Extinction Event.
