He was able to leave the restaurant without embarrassing himself but he barely made it to the street corner when he sat on the curb and opened the to-go box. There it was, that beautiful piece of meat.It was so good.Huff finished the ribeye almost as quickly as he did the first one and now he could barely move. His belly bulged out with a fat round and the heaviness of it locked him down on the side of the curb. He figured he had to ride out the fullness before he could even make it to his car. That’s when he heard a pair of non-skid shoes walk up from behind.Huff could barely turn around but his peripherals made no mistake. It was the chef. The chef knelt down next to Huff and held him tight. She didn’t say a word and neither did Huff; he knew he was done for.The blade felt cold, but once it pierced his throat, it instantly warmed up. He felt his body weaken and his voice become impossible. Hot blood spilled out from his throat and down his chest, coating his clothes. When he fell on his side, the red found the sidewalk. The last thing Huff saw was the street and buildings moving away from him. He realized he was being dragged, and that’s the last thing he’ll ever remember. ~~excerpt from GourmetIn this short story, Martin, a concerned civilian, believes that the hottest restaurant in town is serving people-meat.
