You might have heard this question when it cycled the internet. Generally, it involves a woman seeking affirmation from her boyfriend or husband. And, of course, each male in their own obtuse way, only sees this as a trivial impossibility with no real world implications. The answer for them is no, they cannot see themselves loving a worm, thus failing this test of proving their love’s unconditionality. But is love truly unconditional?
In this Edgar Allan Poe-inspired narrative poem by Oscar Brady, known for extreme horror, splatterpunk, and bizarro stories such as Bunny Room and Potato, the poem’s narrator is faced with the reality of the question when he wakes to find his fiancée replaced by a wiggling earthworm next to a rose.
Warning: While this is a poem, it still is extreme horror and may not be for some readers. Reader discretion is advised!
