The Colors of Cold: a New Story from the Age of Ice

A stunning new ebook original story by J. M. Sidorova Includes an exclusive excerpt of Sidorova’s acclaimed debut novel, The Age of Ice. Speculative fiction icon John Crowley calls J. M. Sidorova’s The Age of Ice “marvelous.” Karen Joy Fowler, author of The Jane Austen Book Club, hails it as “everything you could want in a novel.” Now, in this special ebook-only story, Sidorova returns to the world of The Age of Ice—her captivating blend of fiction, history, and fantasy—offering a mesmerizing new tale of the power of cold. In April 1814, just days after Napoléon’s defeat by the coalition of the European powers, Prince Alexander Velitzyn, the hero of The Age of Ice, is drifting around Paris, coming to grips with the brutality of the war and his role in it. Unbeknownst to him, Alexander strolls through the same passageways as another human being just like him. Hidden behind costume and makeup, twenty-two-year-old Cherie performs a daily show in the Palais-Royal, a noble palace where shopkeepers and showgirls have set up all manner of risqué commerce—boutiques, gambling rooms, and pubs designed to satiate every desire of the senses. Cherie, though, is an unusual act. Her feat relies on physics, not trickery. She is a young woman making do with the fate she’s been dealt—not just the terror of revolution, but her own, crippling coldness. Then, one evening, a wounded young soldier named Julien comes to her room, and what happens threatens to upend Cherie’s notion of the world and herself. The Colors of Cold is a beautifully imagined glimpse into two lives trapped by frost—metaphorical and literal—set amid one of the most stirring moments in the history of Paris.

    Guardians of Medieval Wales

Time travel, mystery, magic, legend … four couples find adventure and timeless love in this collection of series starters set in medieval Wales! Daughter of Time: Time travel to medieval Wales … A medieval man with an uncertain destiny, Llywelyn, the Prince of Wales, faces treachery and deceit at the hands of friends and foes alike … A modern woman with a troubled past, Meg’s life is in tatters when she slips through time and into medieval Wales … Only by working together can Meg and Llywelyn navigate the shifting allegiances that threaten the very existence of Wales–and create their own history that defies the laws of time. Cold My Heart: Love. Magic. Faith. By the autumn of 537 AD, all who are loyal to King Arthur have retreated to a small parcel of land in north Wales. They are surrounded on all sides, heavily outnumbered, and facing near certain defeat. But Myrddin and Nell, two of the king’s companions, have a secret that neither has ever been able to face: each has seen that on a cold and snowy day in December, Saxon soldiers sent by Modred will ambush and kill King Arthur. And together, they must decide what they are willing to do, and to sacrifice, to avert that fate. The Good Knight: Join Gareth & Gwen in their first mystery together … Five years after Gareth walked away from Gwen in disgrace, she encounters him in the aftermath of an ambush, standing over the body of a murdered king. Although it isn’t exactly the reunion Gwen had dreamed of, she and Gareth join forces against the treachery and intrigue rife within the court of Gwynedd. And once blame for the murder falls on Gareth himself, Gwen must continue her search for the truth alone, finding unlikely allies in foreign lands, and ultimately uncovering a conspiracy that will shake the foundations of Wales. The Last Pendragon: Rhiann knows that demons walk the night. She has been taught to fear them. But from the moment Cade is dragged before her father’s throne, beaten and having lost all of his men to her father’s treachery, he stirs something inside her that she has never felt before. When Cade is revealed to be not only Arthur’s heir but touched by the sidhe, Rhiann must choose between the life she left behind and the one before her–and how much she is willing to risk to follow her heart.

FREE PREVIEW: Can a Legacy of Sadness be Broken at the Menger Hotel?   Visit historic American landmarks through the Doors to the Past series. History and today collide in stories full of mystery, intrigue, faith, and romance. Young widow Hedda Krause checks into the Menger Hotel in 1915 with a trunk full of dresses, a case full of jewels, and enough cash to pay for a two-month stay, which she hopes will be long enough to meet, charm, and attach herself to a new, rich husband. Her plans are derailed when a ghostly apparition lures her into a long, dark hallway, and Hedda returns to her room to find her precious jewelry has been stolen. She falls immediately under a cloud of suspicion with her haunting tale, but true ghost enthusiasts bring her expensive pieces of jewelry in an attempt to lure the ghost to appear again.   In 2017, Dini Blackstone is a fifth-generation magician, who performs at private parties, but she also gives ghost walk tours, narrating the more tragic historical events of San Antonio with familial affection. Above all, her favorite is the tale of Hedda Krause who, in Dini’s estimation, succeeded in perpetrating the world’s longest con, dying old and wealthy from her ghost story. But then Dini meets Quinn Carmichael, great-great-grandson of the detective who originally investigated Hedda’s case, who’s come to the Alamo City with a box full of clues that might lead to Hedda’s exoneration. Can Dini see another side of the story that is worthy of God’s grace?

    The Consorts

18th century China. Lady Qing has spent the past seven years languishing inside the high red walls of the Forbidden City. Classed as an Honoured Lady, a lowly ranked concubine, Qing is neglected by the Emperor, passed over for more ambitious women. But when a new concubine, Lady Ying, arrives, Qing’s world is turned upside down. As the highest position at court becomes available and every woman fights for status, Qing finds love for the first time in her life… if Lady Ula Nara, the most ambitious woman at court, will allow her a taste of happiness. If you loved Memoirs of a Geisha and enjoy books by Anchee Min, Lisa See and Pearl S. Buck, then the Forbidden City series is for you. Based on real women in 18th century China who became concubines to emperors of the Qing dynasty and spent their lives in the Forbidden City, this is historical fiction at its most intriguing, gripping and romantic. I had trouble reviewing this, because I was desperately looking for something I could nitpick on. I didn’t find it. It is well researched. It is beautifully written. It stands out because it is the story of courtly games from (the viewpoint of) those who are the victim of them: the pieces, not the power players, and it makes those pieces all too human. A beautifully told and excellently researched tale of relationships and romance in the 18th-century Chinese court. Flawless… BookAngel Five star reviews from Amazon readersAn enchanting love story but so much more.Beautifully written and wonderfully descriptive.Instantly and seamlessly transported me to a foreign land, century, and culture.A lovely story about love.I was not able to put it down, finishing two hours later.A delight! The Couturier: a “miael: Lovers” Supplement & a “the Phoenix & the Seraph” Preview

Duchess Cressida Courtlandt had no choice. At least that’s what she told herself as she stared up at the imposing structure that was the Groversner hotel, the neatly printed calling card of The House d’ LeBlanc clutched tightly in her richly gloved hand. Still, as the hour came now upon midnight, as she stood alone on the nearly deserted London street, she could not quite compel herself to enter – to carry on towards the couturier’s penthouse suite and some horrible temptation, some horrible ruination worse than anything Bedlam had to offer. ——— The Courtier is a super short story (AKA short read) of about 5,000 words. It is intended as a supplement to Miael: Lovers by Grea Alexander and a preview of the new series, The Phoenix and the Seraph, (also by Grea Alexander) that will be released over the course of the next couple of years…or so. Miael is a supernatural horror/fantasy fable – the deliciously creepy, decidedly twisted and delectably eerie tale of a cursed Phoenix & his dubious influence upon a cursed Seraph.
