Expository Thoughts on the Gospel of John [annotated, Updated]: a Commentary

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. – John 1:1 Wisdom, encouragement, and exhortation is contained in these pages. Not because of the author’s brilliance, but because of the words of truth contained in the gospel of John. And just as the Apostle John didn’t draw any attention to himself, so also J. C. Ryle clearly and wonderfully directs his words and our thoughts towards the inspired words of scripture. If we truly love God, we will love His word; and the more study His word, the more we will love God. About the AuthorJohn Charles Ryle (1816-1900) graduated from Eton and Oxford and then pursued a career in politics, but due to lack of funds, he entered the clergy of the Church of England. He was a contemporary of Spurgeon, Moody, Mueller, and Taylor and read the great theologians like Wesley, Bunyan, Knox, Calvin, and Luther. These all influenced Ryle’s understanding and theology. Ryle began his writing career with a tract following the Great Yarmouth suspension bridge tragedy, where more than a hundred people drowned. He gained a reputation for straightforward preaching and evangelism. He travelled, preached, and wrote more than 300 pamphlets, tracts, and books, including Expository Thoughts on the Gospels, Principles for Churchmen, and Christian Leaders of the Eighteenth Century. Ryle used the royalties from his writing to pay his father’s debts, but he also felt indebted to that ruin for changing the direction of his life. He was recommended by Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli to be Bishop of Liverpool where he ended his career in 1900.

Paul’s First Epistle to the Corinthians: a New Rendition

The New Rendition of the book First Corinthians provides a modern English translation of the Greek text while remaining true to Paul’s intent. This translation is excerpted from Paul’s First Epistle to the Corinthians by Richard D. Draper and Michael D. Rhodes. This new version clarifies many previously vague or misunderstood passages and enlightens the text for today’s readers. This epistle is particularly interesting and important to faithful Christians interested in the Apostle Paul’s testimonies of knowledge, revelation, purity, gifts of the spirit, the sacrament, charity, the resurrection, baptism for the dead, heavenly glory, and many other topics crucial to the life of righteousness. This Rendition is part of the BYU New Testament Commentary series. This scholarly project aims to create a faithful modern English translation together with a full, in-depth, carefully researched Latter-day Saint commentary for each book on the New Testament. More of the New Rendition and commentary volumes will be added in coming months and years. As of 2019, volumes have been published on Mark, Luke, First Corinthians, and Revelation.

Heaven: the Place We Long for

For here we have no continuing city, but we seek the one that is coming. – Hebrews 13:14 Is heaven a reality to you, or does it still appear far off and uncertain? The goal of this book is to whet your appetite for heaven. A careful look at Scripture reveals that heaven is what every born-again believer is longing for. Our time on earth is only in a temporary dwelling place, and heaven is the true home of all God’s children. A study of heaven can change how you approach each day, and even how you view others around you. As real as this life is, we are assured that heaven is just as real. While we must not neglect our present God-given duties, we must at the same time be preparing for our future home and should even be looking forward with great anticipation to our eternal home. About the AuthorDwight L. Moody, determined to make a fortune, arrived in Chicago and started selling shoes. But Christ found him, and his energies were redirected into full-time ministry. And what a ministry it was. Today, Moody’s name still graces a church, a mission, a college, and more. Moody loved God and men, and the power of a love like that impacts generations.

The Message for the Last Days: Biblical and Historical Understanding of End Times

The future is revealed through the past; where history and mystery are intertwined. "The Message for the Last Days" explains the history and progression of end time prophecies found within and outside of the Bible. It reveals the original message compared to changes over time leading to vastly different modern interpretations. "The Message for the Last Days" explains how modern Christian culture has created numerous beliefs about end time events, while determining that there can only be one correct interpretation method based upon the original intent. Extensive research traced back to the foundation of Old Testament Biblical prophecies that carry over into New Testament passages. This trail clearly shows where it all started and where we are going from here in a logical, step by step format. The results are revealed to be vastly different than widely held Christian cultural beliefs today. The answers will be surprising to many as to the extant that modern culture has affected Christianity. Topics include answers to these questions: How can we know what the future holds if we don’t understand the past? Why is the Christian Church so divided with many different denominations and independent Churches? Isn’t there just one true Church? How did the modern Church get so far removed from early Church beliefs as clearly stated in the New Testament and by the early Church fathers? What are the original prophecies in the Old Testament about the end times and how are they repeated in the New Testament? Does the nation of Israel have anything to do with end times? What is the true meaning of the Gospel and salvation? All of these questions are answered by a thorough examination of various interpretation methods used by different belief systems. Incorrect interpretation of the Bible is the core issue behind diverse Church beliefs so understanding the root cause will shed light on why there are so many theories today. “The Message for the Last Days” explains six different Biblical interpretations then reveals a unified interpretative approach. There is no religious association or affiliation with any denomination, Church or other organization to this book. It is the work of independent research outside of any bias within sects. KJ Soze is an independent publisher that provides detailed Biblical research of complex topics. This new book cuts across various Church and denomination lines to find unity and clarity for those who may hold differing beliefs .

31 Days of Psalms: Revealing God’s Heart

The picture of God as a loving father may for some be a puzzle especially given that religion has painted God as a diety similar to Zeus waiting on the edge of his seat to raid a shower of lightning bolts to put us in our place. Or, we want to believe that God is indeed an incredible God of love yet, we wonder if he really loves us or sees us as worthy. However, God even in his majesty and might is a God of lavish love whose heart is turned towards you in devotion. For this purpose, I created 31 Days of Psalms – Revealing God’s Heart. I wanted to draw you, the reader, into a deeper understanding of God’s lavish love towards you, and the truth that he is intricately involved in the everyday moments of your life. Here you will find thirty-one Psalms and verses to meditate on and include in your daily time with God. In many ways, it is akin to a devotional book. Join me and a variety of other passionate Jesus writers as we explore the book of Psalms together.

Words of Warning: for Those Wavering Between Belief and Unbelief

He that believes in the Son has eternal life, and he that does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him. (John 3:36) This book, Words of Warning, is an analysis of people and the gospel of Christ. Under inspiration of the Holy Spirit, Charles H. Spurgeon sheds light on the many ways people may refuse to come to Christ, but he also shines a brilliant light on how we can be saved. Unsaved or wavering individuals will be convicted, and if they allow it, they will be led to Christ. Sincere Christians will be happy and blessed as they consider the great salvation with which they have been saved. Whether or not we look to Jesus Christ for salvation is the single most important determination we must make during our lifetime. Countless books have been written addressing just about every imaginable self-help topic. Other books are written solely for entertainment. Some of these books are okay in their own right, but what good are they to the reader if he is lost in the end? Why do we spend so much time even with good things, but neglect the great? Not one thing we can do during our seventy or eighty years on earth amounts to anything if we are not in Christ. What we do for Christ is everlasting, and by claiming our salvation in Him, we have an exceedingly bright future. About the AuthorCharles Haddon (C. H.) Spurgeon (1834-1892) was a British Baptist preacher. He started preaching at age 17 and quickly became famous. He is still known as the “Prince of Preachers” and frequently had more than 10,000 people present to hear him preach at the Metropolitan Tabernacle in London. His sermons were printed in newspapers, translated into many languages, and published in many books.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama: a Message of Spiritual Wisdom

"I always consider myself as a simple Buddhist monk. I feel that is the real me. I feel that the Dalai Lama as a temporal ruler is a man-made institution. As long as the people accept the Dalai Lama, they will accept me. But being a monk is something which belongs to me. No one can change that." –His Holiness the Dalai Lama In October 2012, the Dalai Lama visited the Kurukulla Center for Buddhist Studies in Medford, Massachusetts and addressed approximately 1,800 residents from this diverse New England community. To commemorate the one-year anniversary of his Holiness’ visit, Comcast NBCUniversal presents His Holiness The Dalai Lama: A Message of Spiritual Wisdom to inform readers about the impact he has around the world. The Dalai Lama is a well-known figure, with millions of followers through social media channels, and within all parts of the globe. Yet his history, background, and the scope of his accomplishments often go unnoticed. His Holiness The Dalai Lama: A Message of Spiritual Wisdom explains how the religious leader was first chosen in 1937 and provides an overview of his political and cultural history. It also celebrates the way he brings communities together through a message of peace and nonviolence. Included are excerpts from the Dalai Lama’s address to attendees of the Kurukulla Center, discussion questions, a glossary of terms, and select resources. In addition, the book also features an introduction by Ann Curry of NBC News, as well as her exclusive interview with the Dalai Lama on Today.

    What Is Repentance?

All people have sinned and broken God’s law. None of us are good (Rom. 3:10). And as a result of our sin, God commands us to repent. But what does repentance look like? In this booklet, Dr. R.C. Sproul looks at several people in the Bible and how they give us a model of repentance. Dr. Sproul explains that true repentance is not simply a religious ritual or the resolve to do better next time. Rather, it’s a spiritual conversion in which we turn from our sin and to God in faith. The Crucial Questions booklet series by Dr. R.C. Sproul offers succinct answers to important questions often asked by Christians and thoughtful inquirers.
