The Duties of Parents: Parenting Your Children God’s Way

Training your children well and not causing them to stumble in any way ought to be one of the highest priorities of Christian parents. In The Duties of Parents, J. C. Ryle presents seventeen simple and yet profound responsibilities of Christian parents. Nothing new is contained in this little volume, yet what is presented has the potential to change future generations both now and for eternity. Learn how to shepherd your children; learn how to utilize the most significant key of all – love; and learn first and foremost how to present and represent Christ to your children. As you read this book, expect to find yourself both challenged and excited to begin a wonderful, appropriate, and growing relationship with the most wonderful gift God can give us in our lifetime – our dear children. About the AuthorJohn Charles Ryle (1816-1900) graduated from Eton and Oxford and then pursued a career in politics, but due to lack of funds, he entered the clergy of the Church of England. He was a contemporary of Spurgeon, Moody, Mueller, and Taylor and read the great theologians like Wesley, Bunyan, Knox, Calvin, and Luther. These all influenced Ryle’s understanding and theology. Ryle began his writing career with a tract following the Great Yarmouth suspension bridge tragedy, where more than a hundred people drowned. He gained a reputation for straightforward preaching and evangelism. He travelled, preached, and wrote more than 300 pamphlets, tracts, and books, including Expository Thoughts on the Gospels, Principles for Churchmen, and Christian Leaders of the Eighteenth Century. Ryle used the royalties from his writing to pay his father’s debts, but he also felt indebted to that ruin for changing the direction of his life. He was recommended by Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli to be Bishop of Liverpool where he ended his career in 1900.

    Oasis

A new dystopian/post-apocalyptic series from a New York Times bestselling author My name is Theo, and I’m a resident of Oasis, the last habitable area on Earth. It’s meant to be a paradise, a place where we are all content. Vulgarity, violence, insanity, and other ills are but a distant memory, and even death no longer plagues us. I was once content too, but now I’m different. Now I hear a voice in my head, and she tells me things no imaginary friend should know. Her name is Phoe, and she is my delusion. Or is she? Note: This book contains some strong language. We felt it was important for the censorship theme of the novel. If such words offend you, you might not enjoy this book.

    Not Quite Dead

A broken engagement sends Graciela Harper crawling back to Heron Creek with her tail between her legs, but finds the sleepy little town too changed to set her life right. Not even her budding drinking problem can obscure her Gramps’s failing health, or erase the mental picture of her first love happily married to her childhood best friend. To top it all off, she’s having a heck of time convincing the town’s dashing young mayor of her unfit-for-dating status. When the ghost of 18th century lady pirate Anne Bonny starts insisting on a near daily audience, Graciela has to confront something else she never expected—being certifiably nuts at twenty-five years old. Her brand new "I don’t give a crap" attitude makes it easy to dismiss the mysterious threats that seem to be tied to her search for more information on the long dead pirate, but when her family becomes a target, Gracie knows she needs to find out why the ghost insists on being a constant, reeking companion. If Graciela can put aside her prejudice against people without a pulse, she may discover that Anne Bonny’s problems are intricately linked with her own. The past harbors answers could help the cantankerous spirit find closure, but she is, after all, already dead. If Graciela doesn’t move fast, she might find herself doing the haunting, instead of the other way around.

The Clever Miss Jancy: White Tree Publishing Edition

Miss Orabel Jancy is indeed clever, and she knows it. The oldest of widowed Squire Jancy’s six children, all living at home, Orabel is the author of several scientific books, and has many letters after her name. To Orabel, education and intellectual pursuits are everything that matter in life. She is secretary of a women’s intellectual club that teaches that women are superior to men, and the members have all agreed to remain single because men would hold them back in their academic goals. However, when Orabel was born, a deathbed promise was made with a friend that Orabel and the friend’s son, Harold Kingdon, should be given the opportunity to marry. Nobody thinks to mention this to Orabel, and she only learns of the arrangement when she is grown up and Harold Kingdon is already on his way from India — to propose to her! Even before Harold arrives, Orabel decides she cannot possibly marry a lowly military doctor, when she is so intelligent. As soon as they meet, the feeling of dislike is mutual. But Orabel’s younger sister, Annis, who never did well in academic subjects, is also of marriageable age, and would dearly love to settle down with the right man. Their younger brother and small sisters view the developing situation with interest. The Squire had never found courage to broach the fact of the offer to Orabel, who looks as though her blue eyes would wither the sheet of foreign notepaper in front of her.“You know, Orabel,” puts in Annis, “we did hear something long ago about papa and mamma promising somebody or other out in India should have a chance to court you.”“Oh, do say ‘yes,’ Orabel,” pleads a chorus of little sisters. “It will be so lovely to have a wedding, and Phil can be a page and wear a fancy dress.”“Can he?” growls Philip. “I’d like to catch myself in lace and velvet like those kids at the Hemmings’ last week. Orabel, I think you ought to send him your portrait. Let him know, at least, what he’s wooing.”With these words Philip beats a prudent retreat, and Orabel gives utterance to such tones that Annis, trembling at her side, is almost in tears.“Has it come to this,” Orabel asks, “that I, the secretary of the Mount Athene Club, should be affronted, insulted by a letter like this? Am I not Orabel Jancy? Am I not the pioneer of a new and emancipating system? And who is this Harold Kingdon that he dares to cross my path with his jests concerning infantile betrothal?”

The Effective Vegan Instant Pot Cookbook: 101 Healthy Recipes for the Busy or the Lazy

The Effective Vegan Instant Pot Cookbook Every few years it seems that there is some new, hot, culinary trend. To be honest, many of these trends seem to disappear as quickly as they arrive, leaving in their wake kitchen cupboards filled with gadgets and appliances that will never see the light of day. It is possible that you might even be able to find a few of these gems in your very own kitchen. I am always a little skeptical when it comes to new kitchen appliances. In my opinion, the ones that we have had for decades seem to be working so well that it is rare that one comes along that really gains my attention. Recently, one has and it is taking kitchens by storm. The appliance that I am speaking of is not only the topic of this book, but is quickly becoming the topic of culinary conversations everywhere. The Instant Pot is an ingenious appliance, and I am very excited to help you explore all the wonderful possibilities for your vegan lifestyle. We are at a time when our schedules are hectic, lives are busy and cheap food is easy. I think most of us have good intentions when it comes to eating a healthy diet, but we all know that finding the time to prepare and cook a healthy meal, especially a vegan meal, can be challenging. Just when it seemed that frustrations in the kitchen were about to reach an all-time high, the Instant Pot came along to make us fall in love with cooking wholesome meals once again. The Instant Pot is one appliance that functions as many. No matter what you have in mind, the Instant Pot can make it happen with just the touch of a couple buttons. Meals that once would have taken all day to prepare can now land on your table in a matter of minutes, without losing anything in terms of flavor or quality. Personally, I feel that this is even more important for vegan diets. The vegan lifestyle has a reputation of being repetitive, boring, and simply difficult to adhere to every day. Most vegans will stick to their diets, but will sacrifice variety and nutrition for the sake of not spending precious spare time in the kitchen. The Instant Pot helps to balance out our busy lifestyles with our desire to eat natural, healthy foods. This book was created to help you do just that. Not only do your hands hold an amazing collection of vegan recipes, they also hold practical advice for using your Instant Pot and loving your vegan lifestyle. In this book you will learn about: The Instant Pot: What it is and Tips, Tricks and Advice for Using It The Vegan Diet: Key Points and Benefits Essential Pantry List 101 Vegan Instant Pot Recipes Let’s not waste any more time and get on with the culinary adventure of a lifetime. Loves Me Not: How to Keep Relationships Safe

An essential guide for keeping relationships safe. In 2008, the horrific murder of Sophie Elliott by her former boyfriend and university lecturer, Clayton Weatherston, shocked New Zealand. During the police investigation it became clear Sophie’s murderer was a typical abuser who had a track record of treating partners badly. Sophie’s mother, Lesley Elliott, driven to research domestic and partner abuse, was astonished to find the very characteristics evident in abusive relationships were right there in Sophie’s. Lesley quickly realised that if she and Sophie, ‘through ignorance and naivety’ missed the signs, then so could many others. It became obvious that education was the key; Lesley set up the Sophie Elliott Foundation to raise awareness among all young women, their friends and families to the signs of partner abuse. The Loves Me Not programme was developed by the Sophie Elliott Foundation along with the New Zealand Police and members of the Ministry of Social Development. Its primary aim is to help young people help themselves to keep safe. Loves Me Not includes advice and suggestions on how to identify problems, how to deal with them and where to seek help. Also included is ‘One for the Boys’, a chapter written by well-known clinical psychologist and commentator, Nigel Latta, as well as a chapter written by school guidance counsellor, Gayna McConnell.
