    Putting Our Best Book Forward

Self-help, with a twist The Secret to Everything has been known to mystics and scholars for centuries and millennia, and, today, is increasingly being confirmed by both philosophy and science. Socrates certainly knew it, as did the Buddha, and more recently, Albert Einstein, Carl Jung, and Emily Dickinson. It is a secret not because it is hidden as such, but because it is so difficult to see, running counter to so many of our most basic assumptions. Each of the book’s ten chapters exposes a particular aspect and practical application of the secret, while also keeping it carefully under wraps. On the surface, the chapters may seem to have little in common, but they are all built around the same wisdom. Your challenge, as you read, is to find the common thread that runs through all the chapters. The secret is discussed at the end, but don’t peek or you’ll spoil the fun. ★★★★★ [Neel Burton] draws from religion, philosophy, art, and science… Now, don’t misunderstand me: this doesn’t feel like reading a heavy text. It isn’t like that at all, it’s highly accessible while still being thought-provoking. Each chapter ends with practical steps about how to incorporate the chapter’s theme into your life. Hint: If you notice the parallels between the action points in each chapter, you will clue in on the Secret. And no, I won’t be revealing that here. You need to read the book! —Jamie Bee, Amazon.com Top 50 Reviewer About the author Dr Neel Burton is a psychiatrist, philosopher, and wine-lover who lives and teaches in Oxford, England. Evangelism: a Firm Foundation for Effective Evangelistic Meetings

Outside of personally living for and loving the Lord, there is arguably no greater work Christians can undertake than preaching the good news of Jesus Christ to the lost. It may be that you do not yet have that burden on your heart, or perhaps eternity itself is not yet a reality to you. Or, perhaps you have that burden, but feel like there are no open doors for ministry available to you. Your church may be cold and currently making no great impact in your community. No matter your current circumstance, only believe that the same One who commissions His people for His work also has sufficient resources to enable the work to move forward. Only believe that as you dig into the Scriptures, perhaps with the help of this book, which serves as a biblical guide, that the One who cares most for this work can also put that same burden and love into the hearts of you and your church. While this book was originally written more than one hundred years ago, it appears that it was written for such a time as this. The author first challenges the reader regarding the need. Then he addresses the church and how to engage your available help. Specifics from inviting your community to your evangelistic events, to how to conduct successful evangelism meetings, are all covered in this invaluable volume. Learn what evangelism is, what it should look like, and how to obtain the power to perform it, using this updated edition of a timeless classic to spur you forward. About the AuthorGeorge Campbell Morgan was born in Tetbury, England, on December 9, 1893. At the young age of thirteen, Morgan began preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. Morgan and his wife, Annie, had four boys and three girls. His four sons followed him into the ministry. Morgan visited the United States for the first time in 1896, the first of fifty-four times he crossed the Atlantic to preach and teach. In 1897, Morgan accepted a pastorate in London, where he often traveled as a preacher and was involved in the London Missionary Society. After the death of D. L. Moody in 1899, Morgan assumed the position of director of the Northfield Bible Conference in Massachusetts. After five successful years in this capacity, in 1904 he returned to England and became pastor of Westminster Chapel, London, where he served for the next thirteen years, from 1904 to 1917. Thousands of people attended his services and weekly Friday night Bible classes. He had no formal training for the ministry, but his devotion to studying the Bible made him one of the leading Bible teachers of his day. In 1902, Chicago Theological Seminary conferred on him an honorary doctor of divinity degree. Although he did not have the privilege of studying in a seminary or a Bible college, he has written books that are used in seminaries and Bible colleges all over the world. Morgan died on May 16, 1945, at the age of eighty-one.

IF YOU’RE SERIOUS ABOUT PRAYER AND COMMUNING WITH GOD, YOU’LL WANT THIS BOOK! "And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples." ~Luke 11:1 How Can the Christian Pray Powerfully and Effectively? When Christ’s disciples finally ask Him how to pray… He gives them the same model of prayer that they heard in the Sermon on the Mount and in every town and village where the Lord preached. This model prayer, commonly called the Lord’s prayer, should actually be called the disciples’ prayer. This is how Jesus said that we should pray; not by reciting this prayer in vain repetition, but by communing and communicating with God according to the heavenly truths the Lord Jesus reveals in Scripture. LORD, TEACH US TO PRAY is not an exhaustive treatise on prayer, but it does present a solid foundation for any Christian desiring a more powerful and effective prayer life. SOME OF WHAT YOU’LL DISCOVER IN THIS BOOK: DO NOT BE ANXIOUS Expresses the sin of worry and anxiety through the scripture, and the cure for that anxiety is prayer, trusting in a sovereign God. The Life and Death of Mr. Badman: an Analysis of a Wicked Man’s Life, As a Warning for Others

Horror has taken hold upon me because of the wicked that forsake thy law – Psalm 119:53 Updated, Modern English. Illustrated. The life of Mr. Badman forms a third part to The Pilgrim’s Progress, but it is not a delightful pilgrimage to heaven. On the contrary, it is a wretched downward journey to the infernal realms. The author’s goal is to warn poor, thoughtless sinners, not with smooth words they can ignore, but with words that thunder against their consciences regarding the danger of their souls and the increasing wretchedness into which they are madly hurrying. The one who is in imminent but unseen danger will bless the warning voice if it reaches his ears, however rough and startling it sounds. The life of Badman was written in an age when abandonment of moral principles, vice, gluttony, intemperance, habitual lewdness, and the excessive unlawful indulgence of lust marched like a ravaging army through our land, headed by the king, along with officers from his polluted peers. Are we not seeing the same thing, in every way? It is as if this book was written for us who are alive today. About the AuthorJohn Bunyan was born in November 1628, in Elstow, England. A celebrated English minister and preacher, he wrote The Pilgrim’s Progress (1678), the book that was the most characteristic expression of the Puritan religious outlook. His other works include doctrinal and controversial writings; a spiritual autobiography, Grace Abounding (1666); and the allegory, The Holy War (1682).
